Social media and its impact on young teenage minds.

Social media is a large platform, the source of everyone's knowledge nowadays.

But what people do not consider is the long-term effects of if and how it can truly impact a teen's mind.

Social media being the foundation of trend setting and influencing can lead young minds into unhealthy habits.

A recent issue that has caught my attention and many others is the uproar of mental health issues, like body dysmorphia, depression, and anorexia nervosa.

All being real subjects of concern affecting mostly young teenage girls and boys.

Social media is a place where many teens feel vulnerable, and having access to unfiltered content can truly impact a young person's train of thought.

Many accounts on social media can be seen as ‘romanticizing’ the disorders and some even flaunting their illnesses, causing influence in growing minds.

This is simply dangerous if not stopped and can cause many underlying issues in teens.

Teens should not have to suffer as much as they do, and more support should be offered in schools as well as at home.

As time goes on, so does technology, therefore increasing the amount of time spent on social media rather than genuine social interaction, leading to unrealistic expectations as well as beauty standards.
