Be Kind to My Mind: Bolton Schools Unite for Mental Health Day

The Be Kind to My Mind (BKTMM) event recently took place at Bolton Town Hall, on October 10th 2024, bringing together students from various schools, including Sharples, Mount St Joseph’s, Eden Boys, Smithills, Westhoughton, Bolton Muslim Girls School, St Joseph’s, Harper Green, and University Collegiate School, among many others.

The event aimed to celebrate the hard work of BKTMM Champions in schools while also working on new projects to improve mental health support across schools in Bolton.

BKTMM is an initiative focused on raising mental health awareness and promoting mental well-being among young people.

At this event, students and staff gathered to reflect on their mental health efforts, brainstorm new ideas, and continue the important work of supporting their peers.

Each BKTMM Champion was thanked for their dedication and presented with a goodie bag filled with gifts, treats, and an Amazon voucher as a token of appreciation.

It was a very informative event, and I loved everything about it.

The event was supported by Bolton Youth Council members and hosted by Aiden, a Youth Council member, alongside Shalom, the Youth MP for Bolton.

Throughout the day, students were able to hear from several panels, including insightful interviews with Marc Webber from iThrive and Carolyn from the 0-19 Service, who discussed the importance of inclusivity within mental health services for young people.

Youth Council members also interviewed Jenna and Holly from the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST), further highlighting the efforts being made to improve inclusivity in mental health care.

Additionally, new videos created for the BKTMM website were showcased, featuring Bolton Youth Council members.

It was nice to see everyone from different schools come together for one common cause—mental health awareness.

The event also welcomed representatives from Bert Agency, who discussed the newly improved website, which will serve as a vital resource for students, parents and staff across Bolton.

In the end, the event was a great reminder for those struggling with negative mental health and for the champions that could use the website and newly formed videos to help students struggling.
