WANDERERS edged out Grimsby Town in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup thanks to Liam Trotter's 20th minute header.
Phil Parkinson's side were definitely not at their best but thanks to an impressive second-half defensive display they take their place in the second round draw on Monday evening.
Marc Iles gives his views on how the game went, and how the players rated.
WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)
MARK HOWARD…8 Very steady in the air and produced when his team needed it the most. A comforting presence at the moment.
LAWRIE WILSON…7 Had to dig in and defend for the whole first half, meaning we didn’t see much of him on the overlap.
DAVID WHEATER…7.5 Got a smack in the mouth for his troubles but this is the kind of grinding game Wheater seems to revel in.
MARK BEEVERS…7 Got in the wars with Grimsby striker Bogle but another who is quite comfortable when placed under the kosh.
ANDREW TAYLOR…7 Contributed well to the defensive effort. Nothing flashy and used the ball sensibly too.
ALEX PERRY…6 Will learn a lot from this 90 minutes. Played some nice football when allowed but also had to chase a lot of shadows.
LIAM TROTTER…6 Good finish for the goal and covered a lot of ground for the team. Didn’t entirely stamp his authority on midfield.
SAMMY AMEOBI…6 Worked hard and chased back – two qualities you have not always associated with the flamboyant wide man.
CHRIS TAYLOR…6 Ran out of steam in the end but looked to be enjoying himself in the first half in a central role.
ZACH CLOUGH…6 Should have got himself on the scoresheet, no question, but some of his running on the ball was great to watch.
JAMIE PROCTOR…6 Unlucky to see one shot bounce off the woodwork. Got a bit frustrated in the end as Wanderers failed to get up and support him.
Subs: Anderson 65 (for Proctor) – Showed plenty of energy 6
Henry 75 (for C Taylor) – Couldn’t change the game
Moxey 85 (for Perry) – Added a bit of experience late on
Not used: Alnwick, Buxton, Clayton, Earing.
Grimsby Town (4-4-2): McKeown; Mills, Gowling, Collins, Andrew; Summerfield, Disley, Berrett, Comley; Bogle, Vernon.
Subs: Bolawinra 75 (for Comley), Browne 77 (for Berrett), Jackson 83 (for Bogle) Not used: Warrington, Pearson, Chambers.
Their star man – Omar Bogle: Quiet in the first half, the young striker exploded into life after the restart and caused no end of problems for Wanderers.

Atmosphere – 6 Grimsby’s travelling fans were terrific. Wanderers unusually quiet.
