INTERNATIONAL prop forward Gareth Price has quit Leigh Centurions after being found guilty of a drugs offence.
The 28-year-old Wales star resigned from his contract with the Centurions after being handed a two-year ban by the Rugby Football League.
The ban follows a lengthy investigation by the game’s ruling body.
A hearing on October 9 found Price guilty of breaching the RFL’s anti-doping regulations. His suspension started from the day of the hearing.
Price was randomly tested after Leigh’s game at Halifax in July. His sample was subsequently found to contain traces of Ephedrine – a banned stimulant.
As Leigh prepared to set their own disciplinary mechanism in motion, Price handed in a written resignation to Hilton Park officials.
Allan Rowley, the Centurions’ chief executive, said: “We at Leigh Centurions fully support the ruling of the Rugby Football League, and the stance against drugs in sport generally.
“I have spoken with Gareth and he is full of remorse.
“He recognises that he has made a serious error of judgment, and, unfortunately, it has cost him two years of his rugby league career.”
