Leigh Centurions 24, Widnes Vikings 8: After being booed from the field seven days earlier, Leigh players were given a standing ovation following a marvellous display in the Hilton Park mud.
Leigh's five tries to two win over much fancied Widnes blew Group Six of the Northern Rail Cup wide open.
The Centurions scored their first try after just 57 seconds when Robert Roberts was first onto Aaron Heremaia's cross-kick.
Leigh then had to defend a sustained spell of pressure before substitute John Cookson sparked a superb counter attack with a belligerent run.
This allowed Rowley and Heremaia to open the defence and Miles Greenwood raced away to his fifth try of the season with 23 minutes gone.
Surprisingly, Leigh went further in front after 34 minutes when a chip kick from Tommy Grundy ricocheted into the arms of Dave Alstead and he passed back for Grundy to go over for an unconverted try.
Leigh made a great start to the second half when Leroy Rivett somehow danced his way over and although Heremaia was again unable to convert, given the blustery and wet conditions 20 points proved too much for the Widnes to make up.
The Vikings got themselves on the scoreboard after 55 minutes when Darryl Cardiss flew in at the corner. Gavin Dodd missed with the conversion attempt but an exciting kick return brought an outstanding cover tackle from Greenwood after 65 minutes before a melee erupted in backplay with several punches being thrown.
Former team-mates Paul Rowley and Gareth Price were sent to the sin-bin for their part in an incident that was placed on report. A 70th minute try from Bob Beswick saw the visitors claw within twelve points before Cookson assured victory with a try two minutes from the end.
