Leigh Centurions scored six tries as they dominated their latest Kingstone Press Championship game with Batley Bulldogs.
The visitors were given the perfect start when Martyn Ridyard and Tom Armstrong combined down the left and Ryan Brierley jet-heeled in from 40 metres. Ridyard converted and was again a key figure in the Centurions midfield.
He eventually finished with six goals and two kicks in another sparkling performance.
Leigh created several chances in the opening quarter but a combination of solid defence and handling errors kept them at bay.
The visitors claimed their second try when Brierley, Ridyard and Gregg McNally combined for Matt Sarsfield to run in his eightth try of the campaign.
Batley had their chances but the Centurions defence held firm.
Sean Penkywicz won a penalty just before half time which Ridyard nudged over. Jamie Acton was hit with a shoulder charge and Ridyard again stepped up to convert and extend the visitors’ lead to 16-0.
Former Leigh player Anthony Nicholson dribbled a kick through the line and Miles Greenwood pounced as the home side started the second half well. Scott Leatherbarrow converted.
Adam Higson’s try on 54 minutes sparked a purple patch for the Centurions with further tries from Liam Kay and Armstrong.
An action packed last 10 minutes saw Lee Paterson sent off for the hosts and Acton sinbinned before Leigh landed their sixth try when a pass from Kurt Haggerty found McNally, who scored his 17th try of the year. Ridyard converted from an acute angle to secure a 36-6 victory.
