Leigh 30 Dewsbury 22
LEIGH Centurions continued their winning run in the Kingstone Press Championship, but only just, as two late Johnny Pownall tries secured all three points for the hosts.
The Rams fought back from 22-10 down to tie the game with 10 minutes left and looked favourite to complete victory after Liam Kay was sinbinned but it was the Centurions who found their mark as Pownall firstly leapt to claim Ryan Brierley’s angled kick to the corner and then the wing man was on hand to finish Gregg McNally's break from the scrum.
Leigh faced a battle early on when Rams Jobe Murphy was held up over the line, yet they maintained their composure with Martyn Ridyard reversing a kick for Brierley to finish.
Ridyard booted the Centurions to a 6-0 advantage but Dewsbury roared back with a well claimed try from Shane Grady..
The hosts went back in front after 22 minutes when Liam Kay grounded his first try at the corner and only good defence from Dewsbury prevented another Kay try six minutes later.
The Rams hit back with a try by Scott Hale to level the scores.
Leigh fired into the second half and Kay outstripped the defence to add his second and then Tommy Goulden gave them breathing space.
But tries by Dale Morton and Shane Grady levelled matters at 22-22 before Pownall’s late show wrapped up the points.
