TRIATHLETE Dan Knight proved he could go the distance when he won a prestigious competition in Anglesey.
The 28-year-old from Lostock won the Sandman Legend title at his first attempt at the half Ironman distance.
He completed the event's 1,900m swim in 29mins 44secs, followed by the 93k bike ride in 2hrs 42mins 30secs, and crossed the finish line first after running 20k in 1hr 37mins 36secs.
His victory added to a successful season for the Tri-Rivington club member whose performances have earned him a place in the national team.
He said: "This race just capped off the season for me after competing and qualifying for Great Britain and also taking my fourth top-three finish.
"It was my first ever race at that distance and I went into it thinking it would be a flattish course only to find out it wasn't.
"There was a lovely 25 per cent climb thrown in.
"The run was quite tough along the beach and through Newborough Forrest.
"The swim was the best part. It was really calm considering it was a sea swim.
"The location was brilliant and the scenery fantastic."
Tri-Rivington had two other competitors in the event, both of whom were also taking on the distance for the first time.
Fran Walker and Clare Smith finished third and fourth, respectively, in the veteran over-40 category.
