A TEAM of five Lostock AC green vests headed north on Sunday for the annual Lancaster Castle 10k.
On the flat 'out and back' route starting and finishing at Lancaster Castle, Jonathan Cosgrove was not only the first Lostocker home in a time of 40mins 57secs, but was also fourth overall.
Equally strong performances came from Stuart Hatton (46:24 – 31st overall), Matt Withers (50:42 – 52nd overall), Paul Speed (53:26 – 76th overall) and Karen Taylor (61:17 – 125th overall).
Mark Checkley and Jason Tonge took advantage of calm weather conditions to complete the Red Rose 50.
Starting and finishing at Jumbles Sailing Club, this event organised by the Long Distance Walkers' Association, crosses the moorlands, tracks and reservoir of the West Pennine Moors, taking in Winter Hill, Brinscall, Houghton, Darwen Tower, Entwistle Reservoir and Holcombe Moor before returning to Jumbles.
Tonge came home in 15:43 to finish 31st overall, followed soon after by Checkley in 16:02.
Long-time Lostock AC associate Mark Sammon finished in 17:40.
Joss Naylor finisher Tony Marlow continued his recovery from injury by completing the Yarrow River Splash 10k in a time of 52:25, accompanied by his wife Heather, for whom this was her first 10k race.
Matt Withers warmed up for the Lancaster Castle 10k at Haigh Hall parkrun in a time of 24:28, alongside fellow Lostocker Joanne Parncutt, who posted a time of 31:59.
In a well-deserved rest from his recent strong 5k times, Andy Laycock and nine other members of Lostock AC instead cycled the 170 miles Way of the Roses cycle route from Morecambe to Bridlington.
Club chairman Clive Worthington, who organised the trip, commented on how inclusive and enjoyable the whole event had been.
