LOSTOCK AC's Albert, Michele and Abigail Sunter were among thousands of competitors at the 10th edition of the Grand Raid des Pyrénées in southern France last weekend.
Attracting ultramarathon runners from all over Europe, the Grand Raid des Pyrénées is one of Europe's largest, most prestigious and toughest ultra running events.
Centred around Vielle Aure in the Pyrénées National Park and Neouville Nature Reserve, the various races of the Grand Raid cover some of the Pyrénées' toughest and most inhospitable peaks and valleys.
Tackling the 80km Tour des Lac, Abigail and Michele Sunter worked as a team to cover the route in 22hrs 42mins 12secs and 22:42:14 respectively.
However, Albert Sunter was less fortunate when tackling the 220km Ultra Tour, as a fall and knee injury five hours into his race forced his withdrawal.
Meranwhile, in Wasdale, Jocelyn Chadderton and partner Elaine Sutton completed the Kong Mini Mountain Marathon, finishing fifth in their age group and 92nd overall in the four-hour event.
At Bolton parkrun, Andy Laycock continued his recovery from a knee injury with a time of 24:00 to finish 42nd out of a field of 334, with Kerry Varden posting an equally strong time of 28:54.
At Haigh Hall parkrun, Joanne Parncutt posted another strong time of 31:52.
