LINDSEY Brindle won the women’s first prize as the Harrock Hill fell race series ended with its fourth event.
And she was not the only Horwich runner celebrating after Paul Muller took the M60 prize, adding to his string of honours this year.
He was one of three Harriers achieving a series result this year in eighth place with 28 points. The others were Steven Foley, in 16th place (83pts), and David Barnes, in 51st place with 311pts.
Meanwhile, on the big fells in the Lakes at the famous Grasmere Sports event, Caitlyn Sefton stepped up an age group to the under-12 category and achieved a splendid seventh place for girls.
Nearby, in Wasdale, Joe Mercer achieved an impressive 11th place in the Kong Mini Mountain Marathon that involves navigating several miles across the highest fells in the Lakes.
At Tockholes, Mark Walsh and Neil Holding were close-run finishers and each won their age category in the Royal Rumble, as did Maria McMyler at Whitworth.
David Unsworth has got his race enthusiasm back and this week completed two races in three days.
At Harrock Hill it was a gritty result as he was hampered for a while by losing a shoe in the thick mud.
Two days later he won the M55 prize at the Pilling 10k, with wife Bernie enjoying a return to road races after an injury-blighted 2017 and she was satisfied with her result in such circumstances.
The club’s Murder Mile race is a favourite fixture, organised by junior fell coach Tony Hesketh, for many club members and guests.
It involves a sharp upward effort accessing the top of Winter Hill via the Ramp and Nick Leigh was the outright winner in a time of 7mins 36secs this year, pipping Paul Roby by four seconds.
Lewis Wilkes was first junior to the summit in fourth place and Milly Lever was first junior girl and first female overall in 11th place.
