SHAKERS skipper Paul Scott says hard work is the key to Bury turning around their poor run of results.

Alan Knill’s side, who have lost four home games in a row, welcome winless Grimsby Town to Gigg Lane tomorrow and Scott says his teammates need to get back to basics.

“We have lost four in a row at home, which isn’t good enough,” said Scott. “We need to improve everything.

“It’s hard to put my finger on why we have struggled recently, but I just think we have to get back to what we were earlier in the season – a hardworking team that scores a few goals.

“We haven’t been scoring, but that is for everyone to chip in and once we get the first goal we are capable of going on and get another. We’re in a good position in the league (seventh), but it should be a lot better because we have thrown away a few points recently. We are not resting on our laurels – we just want to get out on the pitch and pick some points up.

“Hopefully we will win one and it snowballs like it did when we won our first game of the season.”

Scott admitted that the clash against Grimsby could be a bit of a banana skin, considering the Mariners haven’t won in 15 attempts this season, but the 29-year-old Wakefield-born ace is backing Bury to come through the test.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said Scott. “But they are all tough games in this division.

“It does make it harder that they haven’t won yet and are looking for their first victory, but we have to get back to winning games at home.

“Mike Newell has turned it around a bit since he came in, results have picked up, even though they haven’t won yet, and they look a hard team to play against.

“We need to work hard now and hopefully we can get the win.”
