RICHIE Baker is urging his Bury team-mates to put the accent on attack at Gigg Lane.
The Shakers have lost their last four home games after previously turning their ground into something of a fortress.
Exeter, Rotherham, Luton and Gillingham have all gone away with victories in the last month, and young midfielder Baker wants to arrest the slide.
“On Saturday, it took a goal from Gillingham before we went at them and it should be the other way around,” said the 20-year-old. “We should go after teams when we are at home. Away from home, where we are good on the counter attack, we know we are good enough.
“The way we play, we sometimes don’t start quick enough and inject enough tempo into the game. We tend to start slow, and then when the opposition score it gives us a kick up the backside and we get going.
“We’re really good away from home, but at home we sit back and let teams come at us, but they want to play the way we play away from home. We need to attack teams more at home.”
Baker’s main input has been from the bench this season, with the good form of engine-room duo Stephen Dawson and Brian Barry-Murphy keeping him on the sidelines.
Nevertheless, he is happy to bide his time and take his chance when it comes around.
“Dawson and Barry-Murphy are doing well in there, and the team is doing reasonably well, so the gaffer has had an easy decision to keep people in,” said Baker.
“When you come in, you just have to do your best to keep your shirt. When I went on against Luton, I did well in the 45 minutes and got us a penalty that turned the game a little bit.
“I think I did okay in the second half against Gillingham too.”
Baker added: “The lads all want to be better and going for promotion.
“We want to win every game and give 100 per cent when we go onto the pitch.
“The past few games have all gone now, so we need to concentrate on the next three games and try to get six or seven points out of nine – hopefully that will get us back into the top three.
“There is more expectation now. Teams expected to get beat coming to Gigg Lane, and we have to get that form back.”
