NEW England striker David Nugent is just one minute away from landing a bumper jackpot for his old employers Bury.
The Preston North End hitman, who was called-up to Steve McClaren's squad yesterday, will net the Gigg Lane side £25,000 the moment he gains a full cap.
A clause cleverly inserted into Nugent's contract when he left the club as an untested teenager for £100,000 in January, 2005, looks set to pay dividends for the Shakers, who will also collect 20 per cent of any profit Preston make should they decide to cash in on the 21-year-old in the summer.
Nugent made his debut for Bury under Andy Preece, but it was Graham Barrow who moulded him into one of the club's most successful exports of recent times.
And the experienced coach, now at Chester, has backed Nugent to be a hit for England.
"I don't think it'll be a problem," Barrow said. "He's never been fazed by anything like that. People forget it was a big step from Bury to Preston and he took that well in his stride."
Current Shakers boss Chris Casper also added his congratulations.
"He's done fantastically well and he should be very proud of himself," Casper said. "The club are very proud of him as well."
