RADCLIFFE Borough's midfield dynamo, Scott Wilson, reckons it was a straight-forward decision to sign a new contract with the struggling UniBond Premier League side.

The 26-year-old has joined skipper Simon Kelly, Matty O'Neill, Tim Dittmer and Ian Fitzpatrick in signing on for next season, and the decision comes just weeks after he turned down a move to high-flying Fleetwood.

"I had a chat with the manager and he said he wanted a quick decision," said Wilson. "To be honest I had no real hesitation in signing.

"The work that is going on behind the scenes shows that the club is moving forwards, and the facilities are fantastic now.

"Hopefully next year there will be more investment in the team and we can win a few more games. It's going to be a tough ask now to stay up this season, but we will give it our best shot.

"We have set ourselves a target of winning five of our last eight games and we are going to give it a real push.

"If we did go down, we would look to bounce back as soon as possible and if we stay up, we would be aiming for the play-offs next season."

Wilson, who has played close to 200 games for Boro, also admitted that his decision to stay at the club was helped by the fact that Kelly, O'Neill, Dittmer and Fitzpatrick were doing likewise.

"Obviously, if those four players were to have turned down their new contracts, I would have had to take a step back and have a think about things," Wilson said.

"But, it's great that they have decided to stay and there is only Ian Kearney that is leaving.

"It's a blow to lose Ian, but that's his decision and the rest of us are more than happy to stay here."
