KEARSLEY won the Peter Stafford Trophy on Sunday after beating Heaton for the second time in as many days.

The Springfield Road side opened the batting in the showpiece final, staged at Farnworth Social Circle’s Piggott Park.

Professional Devendra Bundela showed his class by starring with the bat to knock 90 not out.

Chris Baxendale then added 32 before Cameron Murray chipped in with 39 to post an impressive 207-7 after 50 overs.

Heaton skipper Gary Garner led the reply, hitting 60, and he was supported by Ryan Garner, who struck 30.

However, Dave Mather dominated with the ball and took six victims as the Lower Pools side were dismissed for 169. Bundela and Murray cleared up the remaining wickets, taking two apiece.

The victory ends a five-year wait for silverware at Springfield Road, much to the relief of skipper Grant Cordin.

“It is about time Kearsley won a trophy,” Cordin said. “It has been a long time coming and it’s now time to kick on and hopefully win more next season.

“We should have been challenging for more this year but this win is great.

“The game should have been more convincing than it was but credit to Gary and Ryan Garner, they stuck with it and put on about 80 between them. We will be celebrating tonight.”

Meanwhile, Little Hulton's second team were crowed Peter Stafford Shield winners after beating Eagley second team in the final at Old Vicarage.

James Platt put in a man-of-the-match performance on home soil, opening with a knock of 48.

Ian Lee, batting at 10, scored a vital 17no to boost the total up to 120 before Little Hulton were bowled out.

Daniel Cain was the only bowler of note, taking 5-19.

Bowler Stephen Thomason (5-25) turned the screw with the ball in the second innings as Eagley steadily built their score – Louis Seigne top scored with 27.

Michael Craig tried to galvanise a late fightback by hitting 19no, but eventually Eagley fell 24 runs short of the target.

Elsewhere, Clifton lifted the Cross Cup on Saturday after beating fellow GMCL Premier Division side Roe Green in the final at Manchester Road.

Clifton ran up a total of 130 before bowling the visitors out for 70.
