YOUNG Bolton cricketer Haseeb Hameed has received his Lancashire County cricket Club cap after a stunning debut season in the first team at Emirates Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old former Bolton School pupil and Farnworth Social Circle batsman was awarded his cap at lunch on the first day of the final County Championship Division One clash against title-chasing Middlesex on Monday, becoming the youngest player since the Second World War to receive his Lancashire cap.
Hameed has had a season to remember opening the batting for the Red Rose side, hitting four centuries and seven half-centuries in his first full season in First Class cricket.
In 14 championship matches to date, the former England Under-19 international has scored 1,129 runs at an average of more than 53.
He has also made history, becoming the first cricketer ever to score two centuries in a Roses County Championship fixture at Emirates Old Trafford against Yorkshire.
Hameed, who has been joined in the first team this season by fellow Boltonian youngster Matt Parkinson, has risen through the academy ranks at Old Trafford and made his debut last season in a championship match against Kent on his home pitch.
Praised by Lancashire head of cricket Ashley Giles for his consistent displays, there has been speculation he may even be in the minds of the England selectors for this winter's tour to India and Bangladesh.
