WANDERERS (3-5-2).

NATHAN BAXTER…6.

Didn’t have a prayer with Boateng’s header but did get in a tangle at the start of the second half, with Mansfield claiming his mis-field had crossed the line.

GETHIN JONES…6.

Had a big chance in the first half that went begging. Looked to have been blindsided for the goal, with Boateng drifting in past Matete for the header.

RICARDO SANTOS…7.

Did more or less everything that was required of him, defensively. It is a worry, though, that if he isn’t there to head a cross away, Bolton look vulnerable.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.

Blotted his copybook with one poor back-pass which put Baxter into trouble – otherwise a solid job, using the ball pretty well down the left.

SZABI SCHON…5.

Switched to the right – which looked an awkward adjustment at times – and guilty of overplaying a bit in the wrong areas.

JAY MATETE…6.5.

Should he have tracked Boateng’s run for the goal? Maybe. His second half performance was spot on, though, and he dug deep to get Bolton back in the game.

JOHN MCATEE…6.5.

Claimed a goal and an assist after what was a clunky first half, so won’t complain. Clearly keen to do well for Wanderers but we’re yet to see the best of him.

JOSH SHEEHAN…5.

Used as the single deep-lying midfielder from the start, Sheehan just struggled to get into the game. Subbed on the hour with Matete dropping back.

JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.

Switched to wide left, he put one gorgeous ball in for Collins, which should have been converted into a goal. The desired impact was lacking other than that.

AARON COLLINS…5.

Been in a decent run of scoring form but this wasn’t his night. Should have scored in the first half and didn’t really recover after that.

VICTOR ADEBOYEJO…6.

The effort was there in the first hour but not the execution. Will feel he deserved his goal and to give a little back to those who were doubting him.

Subs: Osei-Tutu 7, 61 (for Dacres-Cogley) – Made a massive difference on the left.

Lolos 6.5, 61 (for Sheehan) – Showed plenty of positivity driving forward.

Wiliams 6, 61 (for Schon) – Added some nice balance in his preferred position.

Charles 7, 61 (for Collins) – Looked like he was chewing a wasp, until he scored.

Sharples-Ahmed 89 (for McAtee).

Not used: Southwood, Forrester.

Mansfield Town (4-3-1-2): Pym; Bowery, Hewitt, Oshijala, Blake-Tracy; Baccus, Reed, Boateng; Maris; Evans, Akins.

Subs: Flint 77 (for Evans), Lewis 77 (for Maris), Waine 82 (for Akins), Kilgour 82 (for Reed), McLaughlin 82 (for Blake-Tracy).

Not used: Flinders, Quinn.

Attendance: 19,823

Referee: Seb Stocksbridge 7/10 – Only had one big decision to make, and though Nigel Clough might have felt the second yellow card for Boateng was “soft” the Mansfield boss knew where the blame really lay. A decent night for the officials.

MAN OF THE MATCH – Jordi Osei-Tutu.

A fantastic half hour which hints at the role he could eventually play in this team. Full of purposeful running and trickery, he had a big hand in two of the goals and provided the spark Bolton had been begging for all night.

MOAN OF THE MATCH – Yes, it was cold but why do Bolton take so long to warm up at home? Another blank first half of missed chances piled pressure on the defence, and led to the negative vibes at half time.

MAGIC MOMENT – The comedy ‘injury’ sustained by Pym when Boateng got his red card. An amazing act of synchronicity which gave his manager a chance to regroup, and once again flags up the problem with the rulebook.

ATMOSPHERE – While the empty seats were hard to miss, those who turned up had little to reward their efforts until late in the game. Mansfield’s away support was one of the louder ones this season, at least until the last 15 minutes.
