Eoin Toal and Kyle Dempsey are back training on grass - but the pair are still a few weeks away from being available for selection.

Northern Irish international Toal hasn’t featured since the trip to Stevenage after picking up a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Dempsey has been sidelined with a knee issue since he was forced off at Birmingham and has since had a surgical procedure.

“There are no new injuries, which is always a positive,” said Ian Evatt. “Kyle and Eoin have just started back on the grass in their build-up to returning, but they are probably still three weeks away.”

Szabi Schon is back from suspension but George Thomason will not be involved after picking up his fifth booking of the campaign during the draw at Cambridge.

“I thought it was a really harsh booking, and again I don’t know if it is a reputation thing but he certainly seems to be on the harsh side of these yellow cards,” Evatt added.

“There was a tackle five minutes after where a player left the floor, took our player from behind and didn’t receive the same punishment.

“Unfortunately for us, we can’t appeal yellow cards. We just have to take our medicine and we are missing George now.”

With no fixture over the weekend, the Whites have had a free week to prepare for their clash with Mansfield.

Evatt was grateful to get some valuable time on the training pitch and hopes it will reap rewards heading into a busy December schedule.

“I like a full week leading up to games,” he said. “It helps us have coaching time and grass time, I think that is when the players take on the most information.

“Tuesday to Tuesday is slightly different from Saturday to Saturday, but the players have worked really hard.

“We were in on Tuesday working hard and preparing for this game. Fingers crossed, we have got it right and can executive a good performance.”

Meanwhile, young forward Conor Carty is nearing a return following a lengthy spell out of action with an ACL injury.

Carty was on loan at Doncaster when the injury occurred, only making a handful of appearances for the League Two club.

The 22-year-old also got some valuable experience under his belt at St Patrick’s in the League of Ireland before heading to Yorkshire.

He had broken into the Ireland Under-21 squad prior to the injury and got on the scoresheet in a friendly against Kuwait.
