Former Wanderer Marvin Sordell could get the chance to become an unlikely FA Cup hero for Kettering Town this weekend.
Five years after announcing his retirement from the professional game, Sordell decided to pick up his boots again in the summer to sign for the Poppies.
The forward has only made a couple of appearances so far this season - including the big upset against Northampton in the previous round – but could be called upon against Doncaster this weekend.
"Marvin signed for us in the summer, but he couldn't commit full time because he works and is all over the place with that, travelling abroad as well," manager Richard Lavery told Northamptonshire Telegraph.
"So when he is available, and if he is needed, then we can call on him. I thought, against Northampton, he was needed as he had that bit of know-how and quality.
"I am not saying that I am going to bring him in for my players, but if we do need him and he can play, then he is a good option to have.
"He keeps himself fit, I know he plays five-a-side and he plays on a Sunday as well when he can.
"He retired from full time football, so coming back to Kettering as and when he can probably suits him because he still loves his football.
"It probably suits both parties, to be honest, and what a player for us to bring in when needed."
Kettering, who currently play in the seventh tier of the English pyramid, stunned Northampton at Sixfields last month thanks to Nile Ranger’s winner in extra time.
Lavery’s side are now 90 minutes away from reaching the third round, where clubs from the Premier League and Championship join the fold.
They enter the game on the back of a strong run, having won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions.
