Nathan Baxter is still confident that Wanderers will “click” – and hopes to use their recent frustration as a “catalyst” to climb the table.

The Whites currently sit eighth in League One, outside the play-off places on goal difference, after dropping points at Cambridge on Tuesday night.

Ian Evatt’s men have a free weekend on the training pitch but then the fixtures start coming thick and fast heading towards the Christmas period.

Baxter insists that Wanderers’ aim hasn’t changed and the shot stopper is eager to build momentum in the coming weeks.

“Obviously, you have personal professional pride but, for me, it is not about the performance of any individuals. This season is just about us getting promoted,” he told the club's matchday programme.

“From a personal perspective, I want to keep as many clean sheets as possible and make as many big saves as possible. But for me, it is about getting wins.

“We are still touching distance away from where we want to be, despite not being at our best, and I think we have got to view that as a positive because I have no doubt that it will click.

“Once it clicks and we get a good run of results going, I have no doubt that people will look back on the early season form and perhaps see it as a catalyst to make us even better.

“Hopefully, we will go on a great run. The international breaks are out the way now and this is where the season really starts.

“I have no doubt that we are going to pick up our form and start performing when it really matters.”

The 26-year-old spent just over a month on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury during the win at Northampton.

Summer signing Luke Southwood got a run of games under his belt in his absence, featuring against the likes of Birmingham and Peterborough.

Baxter returned to action at Stockport and made a couple of impressive stops despite a miserable afternoon for the Whites.

“It was frustrating,” he continued. “We had a horrible day against Huddersfield but after that, we beat Reading, Crawley and Northampton and I really felt we were starting to get back.

“That Birmingham game was one I really wanted to play in. We all know that Birmingham likely have the best squad in the league, but I believe we could have gone and challenged probably better than we did if we had a full strength team.

“But it’s part and parcel of football. The injury I had last year came at an important time. In January and February this time, when it’s really going to hot up, hopefully I am fit and we are in a much better place.”
