George Thomason insists that Wanderers must back up their comeback against Blackpool with another positive display at Cambridge.

It is a quick turnaround as the Whites head to the Abbey Stadium and Thomason says the squad can’t spend too long dwelling on their result against the Seasiders, even though it was a much-needed three points against local rivals.

The skipper, who returned from injury at the weekend, is eager to keep getting points on the board and climbing up the League One table.

“We know that we are under par in the table,” he said. “I know it is tight but at the moment, every win is massive.

“Ideally, we would be in the top two but that is not how things stand, so we will go there with real focus and determination to try and win.

“We will enjoy (Saturday) but then it’s the recovery process and full focus on Cambridge. Those kind of games have been Kryptonite in past years so let’s attack it.”

Wanderers picked up hard-fought wins on the road against Northampton and Stevenage last month and will be targeting a similar performance against the U’s.

Thomason knows how quickly things can change in League One and is determined to go on another good run.

“Throughout the whole year, I believe our home form has been pretty good. It is cliché but you have to go and pick up points away from home at these difficult places,” the midfielder continued.

“That will be a message that is thrown around the squad, making sure that no-one gets too high.

“I think we probably have come on a bit more in those games and environments, especially over the last year or so.

“We can’t be that team who wins one and loses one, we have to be that team who wins two, three or four and really kicks on. With any sort of consistency in this division, you can see yourself flying up there.”

Ian Evatt’s men showed character to fight back against Blackpool, particularly after the crushing defeat at Stockport a fortnight prior.

“When you suffer defeats, you take a hit in your own ego and confidence so you have to regain that by trusting each other, first and foremost,” Thomason explained.

“When things are going badly, it is easy to make sure that standards are high but it is in the good times - where you might win a couple of games or play well – that you have to stay on top of things.

“I think that is the message being reiterated around the boys now – when things are going well, it is time to kick on even more.

“I am a firm believer that what you do during the week affects your performance at the weekend. If you can do that right Monday to Friday, it becomes second nature at the weekend.”
