Abdul Khan is keeping his feet firmly on the ground after winning the Commonwealth Sliver Super Featherweight Championship.
The Bolton boxer defeated John Edwardson via a unanimous decision at the Liverpool Olympia to achieve the latest milestone in a promising start to his professional career.
Despite fighting in Edwardson’s home city, Khan was backed in numbers at the historic venue which helped him get the job done and extend his unbeaten record.
The 22-year-old knocked down his opponent with a sweet shot in the ninth round and also showed his resilience when Edwardson tried to put him under pressure.
Khan is already excited to get back in the ring and do it all again as he aims to keep building momentum.
“It feels amazing, I had a really good crowd out there supporting me. Bolton took over Liverpool! I did it for them and now I am planning my next move,” Khan told The Bolton News.
“I felt in a really good place going into the fight, I had a good camp with my coach. We focused on a lot of different things and I felt confident.
“He was a very tough opponent. Especially when I got him down in the ninth round, that overhand right was a shot we worked on during the camp so we were happy with that.
“When I got him down, I went all guns blazing trying to get (the win). We will go back to the drawing board now and look at how I can get better.”
Khan was also supported by his cousin, Amir, who has plenty of wisdom to pass on after a stellar career in the sport.
It has been an eventful few weeks for the new champion, who recently put pen to paper over a lucrative deal with DAZN.
He wants to enjoy these moments after all the hard work he has put in during his training camps to date.
However, Khan refuses to get carried away and is determined to make sure that he keeps climbing the ranks.
“I am very grateful to God, without him none of this would have happened. I am keeping my feet on the ground and staying humble,” he added.
“I will keep working hard in the gym because there are bigger things to come but, of course, I will enjoy this moment too!
“We have got good momentum now so the plan is to get back in the ring in January or February, and we will go from there.”
