Charlie Adam plans to go “as strong as we can” with his selection against Wanderers as Fleetwood aim to reach the knockout stage.

The Cod Army have taken three points from their opening couple of matches and are one behind the Whites heading into the final group game at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Like Bolton, Fleetwood have a free weekend coming up after their trip to Tranmere was called off due to international call-ups.

“There is the possibility of (going strong). We have the FA Youth Cup as well so the younger lads will be preparing for that,” Adam told the club channels.

“We will probably look to go as strong as we can and it will be an opportunity for the lads to get more minutes, then they will be able to rest at the weekend.”

Fleetwood enter the game on the back of a much-needed 1-0 win against Bradford City in League Two thanks to Ronan Coughlan’s early penalty.

Adam, who played alongside Ian Evatt at Blackpool before hanging up his boots, hopes to build on that momentum against Wanderers but is expecting a tough test.

“Evo has done a wonderful job and they have had a couple of disappointments,” the head coach continued. “That will be a bitter blow to lose 5-0 away at Stockport, but he has got quality within his squad.

“You see the team he can put out for the game and, even though he has got some players going away on international (duty), you can see the quality they have.

“We are ready for it, we will prepare a plan for it and look to go there and make an impact on the game. We know that if we can win the game, we can qualify for the next round.

The Cod Army beat Rotherham and West Brom in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, and Adam hopes his side can deliver another positive display against opposition from a higher division.

He added: “Against Rotherham and West Brom we have done well here, Stoke away from home (a penalty shoot-out defeat).

“We will have a gameplan, go there and look to cause them problems. We will watch the Bolton game back and look to try to see where we can hurt them.

“But listen, they are massive favourites for the game. They have a brilliant squad, good manager and great support so we know it is going to be a tough challenge.

“It is part of being a footballer - going to these places, causing upsets and showing what you are capable of.”
