Mat Sadler was proud of his Walsall side after coming from behind to knock Wanderers out of the FA Cup.
Sadler had challenged his players to get on the front foot before the game and was delighted with their approach from the off against the Whites.
“It was a proper FA Cup game,” he told the club channels. “I thought we started really well, right on the front foot as we wanted to be.
“Then there was a period where Bolton really looked a good team, and they are a good team. You know they are going to have spells in the game and that was their spell, but we came out the other side of that and finished the first half strongly.
“That was the message to the lads because - barring that 15-minute spell - I thought it was a proper FA Cup tie with two good teams and with us in the ascendancy, having chances and being on the front foot.
“I knew before the game the quality that (Josh Sheehan) has, he is a fantastic football player. I am screaming at the fourth official to move the free kick back because I know that position is pretty much where he would have wanted to put the ball down.
“We had a big wall but he showed his quality there. To turn it around in the way we did and just continue to be us… I said before the game we wanted to make memories and we have done it again today.
“I am so proud of everyone connected with the football club because that was an incredible team performance.”
Liam Gordon got on the scoresheet against his former club with an emphatic finish moments after Sheehan’s opener.
“I am buzzing for Liam because coming up against one of your old clubs, your old manager, there is always that little bit of extra that you want to show what you are about,” Sadler continued.
“It was a cracking finish and I am buzzing for him to get that moment, especially in front of the supporters.
“You could think, ‘It’s 1-1, let’s see the game out and try to work our way to penalties’. But the group don’t believe in that and we wanted to be on the front foot again.”
