Attention turns to the FA Cup as Wanderers face a tough test against League Two high flyers Walsall.

Ian Evatt’s men enter the tie in good spirits following back-to-back wins against Peterborough and Stevenage.

The Whites have now won six out of their last eight league games and are up into the play-off places, bouncing back from a slow start.

Team news

Evatt has hinted at making some changes as Bolton look to prevent further injuries, with Eoin Toal now set to miss the rest of the year with a hamstring tear picked up at Stevenage.

Wanderers are also waiting for news on Kyle Dempsey, who has visited a consultant after missing the past couple of matches.

Gethin Jones is close to returning after a knee injury suffered during pre-season, which had some complications.

Jordi Osei-Tutu is also due back after the international break, while skipper George Thomason remains sidelined.

As for the hosts, Priestley Farquharson, Dylan Thomason and Josh Gordon are all unavailable as they continue their respective recoveries.

Opposition lowdown

Walsall have made a strong start to the campaign and currently sit second in the League Two table.

The Saddlers have won eight of their opening 13 matches and are four points off leaders Port Vale with a game in hand.

Mat Sadler’s side have had a free week to prepare for the fixture following their goalless draw at Accrington Stanley last weekend.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced Walsall 26 times in competitive fixtures, with a record of 13 wins, four draws and nine defeats.

The Whites ran out 2-1 winners when the sides last met in March 2021. Kieran Lee and Eoin Doyle were both on target as Evatt’s side secured a crucial three points in the promotion race.

Bolton were beaten by the same scoreline on their last trip to the Bescot Stadium despite taking the lead through Doyle.
