Lostock AC trio Janet Rhodes, Greg Kilshaw an Alan Wilson took part in a 10-mile off road Charity Bike Ride in Settle to raise funds for the Sue Ryder Foundation and enjoyed the event.
The charity supports families and their loved ones with end-of-life care and this event sees competitors able to walk, run, cycle, electric bike it, or even bring a horse!
The Settle loop is the most beautiful route, and participants were lucky to have glorious blue skies all the way. They left the town from the rugby club and climbed up and up to be greeted with far-reaching views of Malham tarn and the Yorkshire peaks.
This was followed by some exhilarating, if a little squidgy, downhill all the way back. The Sue Ryder volunteers did an excellent job - the route is well signposted, there are well-stocked aid stations and there’s even a bowlful of chilli and a commemorative buff at the finish.
Elsewhere, parkrun took a spooky turn last weekend with participants encouraged to dress up in their most gruesome Halloween outfit.
It was a double celebration at Haigh Woodland Parkrun as they also celebrated their ninth Birthday and seven Lostockers joined 342 runners to complete the 5k, though not all the Lostock members received the fancy dress memo. Rachel Stevens, Lurdes Corlett and her dog Dennie flew the eerie flag for the club. The results at Haigh included: Andy Laycock 23mins 17secs, Chris Baker 24:21, Brian Halton 25:42 (second in age his category), Jo McManus 26:03 (second in her age category), Rachel Stevens 28:29, Ian Burns 29:45 and Lurdes Corlett (and Dennie) 32:25.
Rachel Hancock joined 280 runners and walkers at Bolton Parkrun and had a fantastic run, finishing in 25:43 and securing fifth female and first in age her category. She was joined by fellow Lostocker, Stephen Davies, who finished in 37:11.
A little further from home, Tony Maxwell and Sheila Garewal travelled to Dorchester to complete the Great Field Parkrun. Joining 288, they both had a fantastic race with Maxwell finishing second in his age category, in 24:33, and Garewal also achieved second in age category, in 29:28.
Other results: Heaton Park - Beverley Atherton-McKenna 28:18, Lynda Hardman 28:57, Jeanette Brandon 31:56; Pennington Flash - Mark Checkley 29:03.
