It was an exciting fourth round of fixtures in the Key PE Cup, where the young talent from Bolton’s schools brought their best skills and character to the field.

The matches were packed with action, teamwork, and an impressive level of sportsmanship, with players rising to the challenges and putting their hearts into every game. The level of play and the character shown by the children, win or lose, highlighted what this league is all about: developing both athletic ability and positive character.

Several players stood out this week, showing skill and maturity beyond their years. Rudi Drew, from St Bede’s, was a force on the pitch, delivering an outstanding performance that energised his entire team. Rudi’s ability to control the game and drive play forward was impressive, made even more effective by a perfectly-timed assist from his team-mate, Dougie Black. Together, their teamwork and instinctive understanding lifted St Bede’s and demonstrated what great collaboration can accomplish.

In goal for St Bernard’s, Dylan Hardman shone brightly with his superb goalkeeping. Dylan’s quick reflexes and keen awareness helped him make crucial saves that kept his team in contention. His composure under pressure and solid defence made him stand out, showing his commitment to honing his skills is paying off. Dylan’s dedication and consistency are making him a key player for St Bernard’s, and his efforts continue to inspire his team-mates.

For St Thomas of Canterbury, James Parr provided an exceptional defensive performance. James’ work at the back was both strong and controlled, and his ability to calmly play the ball out of defence allowed his team to transition smoothly into attack. His mature style of play showed great technical and tactical awareness, setting him apart as a vital player in his team’s line-up.

This week’s fixtures were again hosted at Ladybridge FC, whose support in providing excellent facilities has been invaluable for the league. Playing at a quality venue not only boosts the players’ experience, but also fosters a strong community atmosphere among parents, coaches, and supporters. Harvey Spencer and Oliver Berry, from LLS College, also helped with refereeing this week, ensuring games were conducted with professionalism and fairness. Their efforts contributed to a positive environment that encourages all players to grow and improve.

What continues to make this league remarkable is not just the level of talent but also the sportsmanship and resilience the young athletes show each week. Every player, regardless of the outcome, gave their all, and it’s inspiring to see them handle both wins and losses with respect for their team-mates and opponents. The dedication, discipline, and cooperation displayed by these young players are qualities that will serve them well, both on and off the field.

As we move deeper into the season, it’s clear the enthusiasm and passion for the game among players, coaches, and families are growing each week. The Key PE Cup is a place for young athletes to shine, develop their skills, and create memories they’ll carry forward.

A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in making each fixture possible, from the coaches and parents to the league organisers and the supportive community.
