Kyle Dempsey will see a consultant over his knee injury to determine whether the midfielder needs a surgical procedure.
Dempsey came off at half time against Birmingham and was absent from the squad that beat Peterborough over the weekend.
“He has had a scan and there is a bit of a floating body in his knee, and a tiny bit of meniscal damage,” Ian Evatt explained.
“He is going to see a consultant with regards to whether the knee needs a clean out or if he can carry on with some sort of injection.
“That actual knee specialist we use regularly is away on holiday, which is bad timing but everyone is entitled to a holiday!
“We will try to get him in somewhere else as soon as possible to progress that and find out where we are.”
Nathan Baxter is close to a return and could make the squad at Stevenage or against Walsall in the FA Cup this weekend.
The goalkeeper has not featured since picking up a thigh problem at Northampton earlier this month.
“He is really close,” Evatt continued. “There are just a couple of boxes that we need to tick off but, in terms of his recovery, he is almost there.
“We are taking it game-by-game but I would expect to see him at some stage this week.”
The games keep coming thick and fast, but Evatt is keen to keep continuity where possible following an impressive display against Posh.
“We always consider but it is important to have some continuity, especially when the team have performed like they did,” said the manager.
“We have already had a look at tomorrow, then we will pitch up against Walsall and probably have a slightly different plan because I think back threes and back fours are slightly different for us this year. We will have a look at that, but we have planned and are ready for tomorrow.”
Evatt added: “We have won five out of the last seven games so we are in pretty decent form, but that moment on Saturday is why everyone loves football.
“You can’t replicate those last minute winners. The emotion in the stadium and on the pitch is why we are all in the game and why we all love it.
“From my perspective, being the manager, it is more important how we went about that.
“I looked at the xG and to have 4.2 to 0.2 - against a dangerous attacking team - is something very positive. I thought the performance, in general, was very positive and a lot more like us.”
