Stevenage have skipper Carl Piergianni back available for their clash with Wanderers at the Lamex Stadium.

The defender missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Rotherham through suspension after picking up a fifth booking of the season.

Alex Revell is also waiting on the fitness of Louis Thompson, who came off at half time against Cambridge last week.

“Pidge will come back in and Louis , he went off with a knock, so we hope he is fit,” Revell told the club channels.

“We are now looking around to make sure that we get leaders in the team and people who are willing to go above and beyond.”

Jordan Hugill and Mallik Wilks both got on the scoresheet over the weekend as Revell’s side suffered a sixth defeat of the campaign.

“I think the game was in control and they didn’t threaten, they had one chance in the first half from a cut back that they put over,” the manager added.

“We controlled the first half and they made it the game they want to make it in terms of being scrappy.

“We won first contacts but, to me, the difference was when Hugill came on. He won first contacts and we didn’t win anywhere near enough, they dropped down to them.

“I think that was the difference in the second half, ultimately, they got the ball forward and he made a huge difference.

“After that, the ball came forward every time into Hugill, flicked on and they get a corner. As soon as he came on, the game changed.”

Stevenage are currently the lowest scorers in the division, having found the net nine times in their opening 13 matches.

Revell, who took charge over the summer following a stint as interim boss, insists they need to improve in the final third.

“We have to create more but that comes from everything,” he continued. “That is the centre-forwards looking after the ball when it comes up to them and being able to build.

“You can’t always expect incredible quality because that is football, you have to build. We have said it a lot, when we get opportunities to cross we have to produce quality and have movement to create chances.

“Today, nowhere near enough and when we did get in there, it was blocked or we didn’t cross at the right time. We have to create more, we have to go away and think about how we improve that.

“We have missed chances but we also have to create more than we are because you cannot rely on clean sheets.”
