Daisy Hill will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their FA Vase defeat against Ashton Town last week when they return to North West Counties League action tomorrow evening (Friday) at the Plumb Factory Stadium, writes Ian Templeman.
Another Friday night game under the lights sees the visit of Ashton Athletic on league business, and as well as giving Lee Hill’s side the chance to get back to winning ways, the Daisy boss is looking for his side to build on the performance they put in last Friday, despite falling to a narrow 4-3 defeat.
“I thought we actually played quite well last Friday, and if you score three goals at home you should really be winning a game”, said Hill.
“The lads battled well and just fell slightly short.
“We maybe didn’t defend as well as we could or should, but we created plenty of chances and just fell a bit short on the night and on the wrong side of a fine margin, which is a bit of a trend this season”.
A game against Ashton Athletic gives Daisy the chance to avenge one of their heaviest defeats of the season, when they lost 5-1 at Brocstedes Park in the reverse fixture in August, although Hill believes that result is not a reflection of any major difference between the two sides.
“Ashton Athletic gave us a bit of a rough time in the last game, but that being said, we could have been 2-0 up early on, didn’t take our chances and got punished for that. So you have to take the result with a pinch of salt.
“I don’t think there is too much between the sides really, and if we had picked up a few more points from certain games as we should have, we wouldn’t be a million miles away from them in the league.
“They have also picked up good results, and also dropped points they wouldn’t have expected, which is similar to us really.
“I watched them last Saturday against Maine Road when they lost at home, so they are maybe in a mixed run of form coming into Friday night.
“But we have to plan properly for the game, we will obviously respect them, and I think we will give them a good game”.
Kick off at the Plumb Factory Stadium tomorrow evening is at 7.45 pm.
