Bolton RUFC Amazons Girls Under-14s hosted the first round of the Lancashire Challenge last weekend - and won both of their games to nil.
Their visitors were Aldwinians, from Droylsden, in Manchester, and Crewe and Nantwich U14s.
The first match was against Aldwinians who are a new team and were missing a number of their experienced players.
They worked hard and never gave up, but the more experienced players from Bolton took control of the game.
A try by Eilidh Burns and two from Holly Turner and Iona Barnes. sealed the game for Bolton. Iona converted four of the tries with the final score 33-0 to the hosts.
Bolton’s next game was against Crewe, whose team was very much depleted due to half-term and they were only able to field five players, so five from Aldwinians joined their side.
Bolton also won this game, scoring six tries without reply.
Iona scored two, with coaches and parents’ player-of-the-match, Phillipa Irving, scoring one, with further tries from Holly, Felicity Redford and Eilidh Burns. Three tries were converted by Iona as it ended 36-0.
In the final game of three, Crewe beat Aldwinians who never gave up throughout the tournament and were a credit to their club.
For Bolton, Phillipa Irving won both the parents’ award and coaches’ award after scoring her first try for the club, and her powerful runs in the game.
Meanwhile, Betty Weall received the captain’s award and although she did not get on the scoresheet, she created and assisted numerous tries on the day.
