Blue skies and Autumnal sunshine accompanied us as we headed for the Toughsheet to face the Brewers from Burton Albion.

The Doombar deliberations were split over the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the next England manager and our poor record against the day’s opponents, who have been something of a bogey team.

It was good to see our Irish and Welsh internationals doing well, but it had cost us the services of Eoin Toal through a neck injury. More bad news followed when the team was announced, with captain George Thomasson missing.

The Wanderers started well, on the front foot, dominating play but with no end product, except for an Aaron Collins’ effort disallowed for offside. In a one-sided first half, Burton nearly snatched the lead but for an incredible goal-line block by their own player, Mason Bennett! Well done that man, he saved us a certain goal.

The second half was low key, with the Bolton crowd unusually flat and the 200-plus Burton fans in full voice. But then Randell Williams turned the match with a quick long throw in to put Collins in to score the first and a couple of minutes later, getting on the end of a superb through ball from Kyle Dempsey to score the second. We looked home and dry, but then minutes later our defence got into a terrible tangle as Burton scrambled a goal back, leaving us with a nervy last 20 minutes.

At the end of the day, it’s another three points and the good run continues with us now four matches unbeaten, albeit against the lesser teams in this league. We have sterner tests ahead of us, starting with league leaders, Birmingham away on Tuesday night.

We are having a tough time with injuries again, and this is preventing us building up a consistent side with all important partnerships and understanding between players, particularly in defence, where we seem to have different line-ups every game. Ten games into the season and we have just squeezed into the top half of the table. We need to build from here.
