Daisy Hill will be looking to continue their recent good form when they host local rivals Ashton Town in the FA Vase first round at the Plumb Factory Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm).
A hard-fought 1-0 win against Skelmersdale United on Monday night extended Daisy’s winning run to three games, and manager Lee Hill is pleased at the way in which his squad is shaping up.
“Monday night’s win over Skem was a good result against a good side, and I thought it was a good game to watch,” said Hill
“We’ve been working on a few things in training, and some of those have been showing through in the last couple of games. I think the difference with us this season is that we are playing our style of football, whereas last season I think we had to try to adapt and counter different teams’ styles of football.
“But this season, with the quality of the players we have got, we can impose our own style and give teams problems rather than the other way around.
“The club is a good place to be right now, the atmosphere is good and we are doing well at home this season, whereas last season we weren’t picking results at him in the way we would have wanted at home.
“The group of lads we have in the changing room are a fantastic bunch of lads, not just as players but as lads too, every single one of them. They react well to different types of challenges, and they are receptive to what we are trying to do”.
Although his squad are in good form, Hill is nonetheless wary of the threat posed by an Ashton Town side who sit just four points behind Daisy in the league, and are unbeaten in their last five games.
“Ashton Town will be coming here confident they can win the game,” said Hill. “They had a great season last season, although so far they haven’t quite hit the heights they hit last season.
“I watched them last Saturday against Atherton LR and they are a good side. They are coming into this game on the back of that good win against LR so they are going to come full of confidence and it’s up to us to match them, and at the same time play our own game.
“We didn’t really expect to be involved at this stage of the FA Vase, but we got a great result against Lower Breck in the last round to get us to this point.
“Any success we can get in cup competitions is good, and if we could do well in a cup, whether that is winning the trophy or getting further than we have ever done before, it brings a bit of feelgood factor into the club as a whole.
“The game is there for us to win, it’s a great game for a neutral too, and we are looking forward to it.”
If the game ends in a draw after 90 minutes, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout.
