Wanderers have been drawn away at League Two side Walsall in the opening round of this season's FA Cup.
The Whites' last match against the Saddlers was a 2-1 victory in March 2021 thanks to goals from Kieran Lee and Eoin Doyle.
First-round ties will be played the weekend of November 2, between Bolton's League One trips to Stevenage and Stockport County.
The draw was carried out live on BBC Two by ex-Sheffield United striker Danny Webber and Preston North End assistant manager Stuart McCall.
Ian Evatt’s men overcame Solihull Moors and Harrogate in the opening rounds last term before holding Luton Town to a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road.
The Hatters recorded a narrow victory in the replay at the Toughsheet Community Stadium despite Dion Charles’ opener.
Bolton won the historic competition four times between 1923 and 1958. The club has also reached the final on a further three occasions.
