A teenage Bolton Futsal Club goalkeeper has been called up to represent England.
Nineteen-year-old Joy Low helped Bolton become National Futsal Series women’s league champions for the 2023/24 season and is now set for international honours.
Prior to joining Bolton in 2020, Low was schooled at Tameside’s Sala Futsal club and she will be joined in the national ranks by another Sala graduate, 17-year-old Sofia Wilby.
The pair will travel with the England Futsal Lioness team to Moldova today for Fifa World Cup Qualification where they face Finland, Sweden and Moldova.
These will be the first ever England women’s futsal team’s competitive games, so it’s a real achievement to make the first ever Lioness Futsal Team.
Sala Futsal and Manchester Futsal Club women’s head coach Neil Lucas said: “This is such an exciting time for women’s futsal in England and to have two of our Sala graduates make the first ever Futsal Lioness team is an amazing achievement.
“I wish both Sofia, Joy and the rest of the squad best wishes in their games in Moldova, it would be amazing if the Lionesses could qualify for the first ever women’s futsal world cup.”
