MATT Taylor’s Wealdstone progressed to the FA Cup first round with a 4-1 win against Gosport – giving him the chance of a Wanderers reunion in tonight’s draw.
The former Bolton midfielder, now in charge of the National League side, watched as Alex Reid scored a hat-trick on his debut to see off the challenge of their Southern Premier League opponents.
But he was not the only ex-Whites star who was successful on the day, Marvin Sordell’s Kettering Town will be in the hat for the first round after a 2-1 win at Farsley Celtic.
James Henry’s Aldershot Town held out for a 2-1 home win against Bath City with 10 men and there was late drama for Woking as ex-Bolton full-back Adam Chicksen cleared off the line in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win against Slough, with Will Jaaskelainen also in goal for the Cards.
Christian Doidge made the tie safe for Forest Green Rovers with a late goal in their 2-0 win against Weymouth but former Bolton defender Reiss Greenidge was on international duty for Maidstone United’s comfortable 3-0 win against Ebsfleet.
And there was two goals for ex-Whites striker Mo Faal in Worthing’s 4-0 win at Plymouth Parkway, which puts them in the first round for the second year running.
Former Burnden Park favourite Richard Sneekes was part of the coaching staff at Rushall Olympic, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Peterborough Sports and will now need a replay.
Conor Hall’s Brackley Town will also get another crack at Hartlepool United, the former Whites striker having entered the game as a substitute with a few minutes remaining in the 1-1 draw.
Kevin Poole’s Solihull Moors earned a 1-1 draw at Altrincham, with another former Bolton forward, Connor Wilkinson, in their starting line-up.
Ex-loan midfielder Jacob Butterfield featured for Gateshead in their 1-1 draw at Hednesford, which means a replay in the North East on Tuesday week.
But there will be no reunion for Phil Brown, Neil McDonald and Dean Holdsworth, who are in charge at Kidderminster Harriers, as they slipped 1-0 at home to Guiseley.
