Alex Murphy believes the big occasions bring out the best in him as he aims to extend his unbeaten professional record.

Murphy is set to take on Dan Booth at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Friday, October 25 during a televised event on Channel 5.

It will be Murphy’s 12th match since turning professional and the 23-year-old reckons his preparation will stand him in good stead.

“I am feeling great,” he told The Bolton News. “I have had a good camp, it will be eight weeks by the time it gets to fight night.

“I have had plenty of preparation and I’ve known my opponent for the full eight weeks as well. It has given us a lot of time to make a gameplan and work on stuff.

“Everything is going well with training and the gameplan is working well in sparring. The fight is getting closer and I am excited, I’m looking forward to it.

“It is something I thrive off really. There are a lot of good fights as well as mine on the undercard and I feel like it just adds to the fire and the buzz of the event when it is a big show like this.

Murphy had 30 amateur fights under his belt before turning pro and has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Now, he is hungry to keep progressing.

“I feel like over the years I am constantly improving and adapting,” he explained. “It is obviously a lot different now and I think I am more suited to it with the longer rounds, the gameplans and everything like that.

“I am getting to the point now in my pro career where I am becoming an experienced fighter and with every performance, I feel like I am getting better.

“Every training camp, I just feel that little bit sharper and sparring, I feel like I am improving all the time.

“You can’t buy experience, it is just something that comes over time and I can definitely see it sort of coming through now.”

It is always a special occasion when Murphy gets to fight at the home of his beloved Wanderers, and he hopes it will be a memorable weekend all round.

“I love boxing at the stadium. I think this will be my fifth time and it is sort of becoming a home for me,” he beamed.

“I am noticing at every fight there are more and more Bolton fans getting tickets and turning out to support. It is a dream for me and I am really pleased to be fighting there again.

“I will be at the game the next day (against Peterborough) and hopefully I will be buzzing. If I win and then we can get the three points, it would be a great weekend for Bolton fans!”

The Whites have picked up 10 points from their last four games in League One following a slow start, although there was a tinge of frustration they had to settle for a draw against Shrewsbury before the international break.

“It is hard not to think Shrewsbury was a step back,” said Murphy. “The momentum we picked up from the three wins, it should have got us through that game and it felt a little bit like a loss.

“But the team has definitely improved from the three losses we took so that is a positive. It is a long season and anything can happen.

“I think we just have to be consistent over time and I think it will come. The fans just need to stay behind the team and keep turning up.”
