Dan Nlundulu is eager to “kick on” at Cambridge after scoring his first couple of goals for the U’s.
Nlundulu headed to the Abbey Stadium on loan in search of regular minutes after a frustrating spell with injuries.
The 25-year-old got off the mark against Charlton in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and also netted against Wycombe in the league.
“It is nice to get on the scoresheet,” he told the club channels. “The first one is always a tough one so it was nice to get that early in the league.
“I have had a lot of injuries in the past so it is important for me to build up my fitness. The gaffer (Garry Monk) has been looking after me well and I want to stay on the pitch and score more goals.
“I did my hamstring last year and had an operation but I am back fit now. There is nothing better than being on the grass, it is a good feeling to be back and scoring.
“I feel like injuries have slowed me down a lot - it is not an excuse, it is just reality. Every player has to go through this, it is part of football and my journey.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without it. Hopefully, I will get where I want to get to and it will feel even better because of what I have been through before.
“I am still learning with my body as well. I want to prove that I can do it week in, week out and hopefully I can do that here.”
Cambridge find themselves bottom of the table and still searching for their first victory after a tough start to the campaign.
Nlundulu is staying positive and insists there is plenty of belief in the camp that they can bounce back.
“We have got a great group of lads in the changing room, honest and working. We are not disheartened, we believe in ourselves," he added.
“In football, even the best go through challenges but it is about sticking together and believing that we can do the job together.
“I haven’t been through a run like this before, but it is a good learning curve as a pro and as an athlete.”
