Ian Evatt has been charged by the FA following his red card against Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

The Wanderers boss was sent off after an exchange with Shrews captain Morgan Feeney following a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Evatt has been charged with misconduct and now has until Thursday to respond. He will be in the dugout against Aston Villa Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy tonight.

An official statement on the FA Spokesperson account read: “Ian Evatt has been charged with misconduct following the EFL League One fixture between Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, October 5.

“It’s alleged that the manager’s conduct on the field of play after the final whistle was improper and/or violent. Evatt has until Thursday, October 10 to provide his response.”

Evatt was unable to speak to the media on Saturday due to his red card but addressed the incident during his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

“Obviously, I am not going to say too much because I am part of a process with the FA but what I will say is that I am disappointed. I am not happy with the way things turned out,” said the manager.

“There wasn’t an issue with the referee at all, we were discussing the timing situation, and there was context to my actions.

"Their player grabbed me, said some not very nice things and I reacted in a way I shouldn’t have done.

“Whether it was emotion, frustration, passion, whatever you want to call it, it probably went too far. But as I say, there is context behind the way I reacted and I will be discussing that with the FA.”
