Engaged pair Sarah Watton and Jonathan Sangster made the headlines for Burnden Road Runners as they finished first lady and first man respectively with outstanding times at Team Deane Triathlon Club.
The speedy twosome were mentioned on the website, Fast Running, in their round up of the week’s swiftest UK times.
Sangster won the race outright in an astonishing 36mins 9secs and has the honour of an engraved plaque from the Team Deane Triathlon Club. Watton led the ladies home in an impressive 41:59.
Burnden Road Runners lead the way at the Club Championship race where, incredibly, the first eight runners home all wore Burnden colours as well as Watton’s winning performance.
In addition, Burnden swept up when it came to the vet categories with almost all of the first place categories going to the club.
The race starts from Chew Moor and leads runners along the Middlebrook Trail before returning. The bar was set high for the club as, not only was it a Club Championship race this year, but it was also won in 2023 by captain Andy Dunleavy. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton were in attendance, amid great support, to start the runners off.

On the streets of Nottingham, not far from Sherwood Forest, Tess Riley joined the merry men and women as they took on the challenge of the Robin Hood Half Marathon.
Starting at Victoria Embankment, the course is a picturesque journey along the River Trent and past some of Nottingham’s best known sights including Nottingham Castle, the Robin Hood Statue, through the Park Estate and Wollaton Park with the chance of seeing roaming deer, before returning to the Victoria Embankment Recreation Ground.
Riley made Robin and Little John proud as she crossed in a very respectable 2:22:00.
In addition to their weekly parkrun, Simon and Sue Marland took on a bit of a different challenge this week.
Joining in the brilliantly-named ‘Autumn Fudge Trudge’, the couple were anything but trudging along the beautiful Saltaire canal.
Also taking in the Bingley Five Rise Locks, the 10K is one of the popular Sir Titus Trot races. The couple finished the trudge in 1:10:45.
