SZABI Schön has been rewarded for his solid start to life in English football with a return to the Hungary national squad.

The wing-back was called up after Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez picked up an injury which forced him to pull out of the reckoning for forthcoming games against the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He already has eight caps for his country but has not been in the reckoning since 2022.

Schön’s involvement for Hungary means he will miss Tuesday night’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy game against Aston Villa’s Under-21s, along with the rest of Bolton’s international contingent Josh Sheehan, Dion Charles, Eoin Toal and Luke Southwood.

Chris Forino will miss St Lucia’s CONCACAF Nations League games against Saint Martin after having an operation to fix a torn hamstring.

Ian Evatt has been pleased with the way Schön has progressed in his first couple of months as a Bolton player, having moved from Hungarian top-flight outfit Fehérvár in the summer.

The 24-year-old scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town and also provided an eye-catching assist for John McAtee in the previous game at Northampton.

“He is improving all the time and he is still a very young lad, we mustn’t forget that,” said the Bolton boss.

“Not only that, he has come into a completely different country, a completely different culture, a completely different style of play and a completely different division to what he is used to, so I think he has adapted really well.

“Is he the end product yet? No. But we are seeing more and more promising signs as we go and that bit of detail he showed at Northampton – that pass, it wasn’t just an aimless cross – are the bits of quality he can add to us, and I was delighted for him.”
