Szabi Schon hopes there is plenty more to come after getting off the mark for Wanderers to rescue a point against Shrewsbury.

The wing-back got himself in the right place at the right time to sweep home Kyle Dempsey’s low cross just after the hour mark.

“It is a really good feeling to score my first goal for this unbelievable club,” he beamed. “Hopefully, there is more to come.

“First half, we started a little bit sloppy and conceded from two set-pieces. We had a talk about it and (Shipley) on the edge was totally free for the second.

“But we kept going in the second half and scored two beautiful goals. The last 10 or 20 minutes, we have to (find a winner) at home.”

Schon has been thrown in at the deep end since arriving from Fehervar in the summer, starting all nine of the Whites’ league games so far.

The 24-year-old has been adjusting to the demands of English football and is starting to find his stride after several impressive displays on the left flank.

“My last couple of games were better than the first four or five,” he reflected. “I have done my best and I think everyone can see that.

“The first games, I didn’t play that well but I have learnt a lot. The defensive shape is different here to in Hungary so I am learning, there is more to come from me.

“(English football) is a bit different, it is more direct but that depends who you play against. The last couple of games were more direct from the opponents.

“The supporters are amazing at home and away, it is packed everywhere! We are happy to have them.”

Attention now turns to Tuesday night’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy fixture against Aston Villa Under-21s.

The Whites made a winning start at Barrow in the group stage thanks to goals from John McAtee, Aaron Collins and Dempsey.

Schon is determined to sign off with a victory before a chance for the squad to refresh during the international break.

“We want to win,” he insisted. We have to keep pushing and then we can rest a little bit before we come back.

“(The break) is positive and also negative because we had been winning games and playing well.

“It is quite a long break and we have four or five days free. When we come back, we have to keep pushing and winning games.”

The games keep coming thick and fast for the Whites, who had three successive fixtures on the road before hosting Shrewsbury.

Schon is relishing the busy schedule and will be ready to go again on Tuesday night if called upon.

“I am a football player so I love to play every game,” he smiled. “I really enjoy (the style of play), I just want to help the team be successful.”
