IAN Evatt is determined to keep all four of his striker “pack” simmering.

John McAtee and Dion Charles added to their scoring tally in Tuesday night’s 4-2 win at Northampton and an intriguing battle is now brewing for a starting spot.

Victor Adeboyejo and Aaron Collins have also impressed but the rotation policy looks set to continue this weekend as Shrewsbury Town come to the Toughsheet Stadium.

Evatt has talked about fostering a collective spirit among his front men and after McAtee’s man-of-the-match performance at Sixfields, he believes the rivalries are helping push the club up the table.

“I have got four excellent strikers and it is not about individuals, it’s about that pack backing each other and supporting each other, when it is their turn they have to deliver,” he said.

“John is a top player, I love his character and working with him. He is going to be a big player for this club where we have four excellent options and it’s good that they are driving those standards.”

After surrendering possession against Reading and Crawley, Wanderers deferred to a more familiar gameplan against Northampton. And Evatt has been delighted to see his side produce goals regardless of the approach.

He said: “It was the plan to have less of the ball on Saturday, probably the first 20-25 minutes of the second half was a little too passive but we have shown a different side to us that we can win games that way. Tonight we felt we could go back to the 3-5-2, how we build up, where the space was, and the players executed it fantastically well.

“That’s 11 goals in three games, much more like the team we are in terms of chance creation and finishing chances.”

The one downside for Evatt was two goals conceded in stoppage time, which denied Nathan Baxter a third clean sheet of the season.

“I felt harsh on the players because it’s something we can’t allow to happen again, and hopefully it won’t,” he said. “Complacency, really, a lack of detail and professionalism in the last five minutes which can take the shine off it, and if we weren’t in such a comfortable position it could have cost us. Not just that, the two goals, but Dion should have squared the ball for Scotty and it’s 5-0 and there’s just no way back, it kills them off.”
