Lostockers Jo McManus and Rachel Stevens braved cold weather to complete two laps of Media City in the final instalment of the Runthrough Media City 5k.
The pair had a good end to the season with McManus finishing in an epic 23mins 35secs, finishing as fourth female and second in her age category. Stevens finished in 26:22, securing third in her age category after McManus.
Not content with racing on Thursday, the pair joined a big Lostock turnout at the Worsley Woods 5k Trail Race last Sunday for the final instalment of the Road/Trail Championship.
The race is organised by Swinton Running Club, and is part of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix. It has a fast start, downhill along the Roe Green loop line before participants head back to the start through the trails of Worsley Woods. The track back was wet and muddy, making the second half of the race slower and more challenging.
The first Lostock member to cross the finish line was Dave Parry in a fantastic 37:40, followed by Hazel Hatfield and Gareth Pratt in an impressive 38:16. They were quickly followed by Andy Laycock, in 38:28.
Other results: Mark Shuttleworth 39:57, Paul Lacey 40:29, Jo McManus 40:42, Chris Baker 40:50, Rachel Hancock 40:54, Brian Halton 41:15, Mike Berry 45:11, Martin Smith 47:04, Rachel Stevens 47:05, Ste Hancock 50:21, Gillian Caldwell 52:46.
Amanda Smith embarked on an epic adventure, completing the 5 Valley Ultra. This race forms part of the 13 Valley Ultra series and covers a gruelling 55k (34 miles). The race includes five valleys in the Lake District, starting at Waterhead in Ambleside and finishing in Keswick. Smith had an excellent race, finishing in 11:17:00.
Also in the Lake District, Louise Jeffrey-Read took part in the Lakeland Cartmel 18k Trail Race. Starting in Cartmel the race heads out over the fells, covering more than 11 miles and an elevation gain of 1,250 feet. Jeffrey-Read had a fantastic race, finishing in 2:04:50.
Closer to home, Kathryn McDonald and Melonie Crompton-Goodall took part in the Team Dean Alison Brady 10k, in Lostock. This was an out-and-back race along the Middlebrook Cycle Path and McDonald finished in 54:19, Crompton-Goodall clocking 54:26.
