Wanderers are back on the road for the third time in seven days as attention turns to Northampton.

Ian Evatt’s men have won back-to-back league games against Reading and Crawley following a slow start to the campaign, climbing to 14th in the table.

Kyle Dempsey and John McAtee both got on the scoresheet at the Broadfield Stadium over the weekend to secure a hard-fought three points on the road.

Team news

Klaidi Lolos is back available for selection. The versatile midfielder has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury against Leyton Orient on the opening day.

Lolos managed to avoid surgery, but it was still a blow for the 23-year-old following his summer switch from Crawley.

Chris Forino remains sidelined with a hamstring issue he picked up against Arsenal at the Emirates last week.

As for the hosts, Tom Eaves is “back on the grass” but might not be ready to make the squad against his former club. Eaves headed to Sixfields over the summer, having spent the past couple of seasons at Rotherham.

Opposition lowdown

Northampton have taken eight points from their opening seven league matches, including wins against Exeter and Huddersfield.

The Cobblers enter the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Mansfield, with Tariqe Fosu seeing a penalty saved by Christy Pym.

It is a demanding week on paper for Jon Brady’s side, with a trip to Wrexham also coming up on Saturday.

Luke Mbete, who spent the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Bolton, has made five starts for Northampton since arriving on loan from Manchester City.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced the Cobblers 15 times in their history, with a record of eight wins, two draws and five defeats.

The points were shared at Sixfields last term following a 1-1 draw, with Carlos Mendes Gomes cancelling out Kieron Bowie’s early opener. Evatt's men played over an hour with 10 men after George Thomason was sent off for a foul on Aaron McGowan.

The Whites ran out 2-1 winners at the Toughsheet Community Stadium several months prior thanks to goals from Dion Charles and Randell Williams.
