Ahead of Wanderers’ return to Crawley this weekend, we take a look at the side which won promotion at the Broadfield Stadium in 2021 and where they are now.

Matt Gilks

Started Wanderers’ first game back in League One against MK Dons, and also made a trio of appearances in the cup competitions, before hanging up his gloves to focus on coaching full time.

Gethin Jones

Appointed vice-captain in January 2022 and has since become an international with Australia, featuring at the Asian Cup in Qatar earlier this year. Yet to feature in League One this term after picking up a knee injury in pre-season.

Ricardo Santos

Captained the side to victory against Plymouth in the EFL Trophy final and also led the team out at Wembley against Oxford in May. Remains an important member of Ian Evatt’s squad despite no longer wearing the armband.

Made 18 appearances the following season before departing Wanderers at the end of his contract. Had been offered a player-coach role within the B Team set-up but wanted to extend his playing career, and went on to have a stint at Waterford in the League of Ireland.

Declan John

Spent last term on loan at Salford in League Two and was released by the Whites over the summer. Has been training with Swindon Town in recent weeks but is yet to sign a contract with the Robins.

MJ Williams

Had a couple more seasons at Wanderers before heading to MK Dons in search of regular playing time. Made 42 appearances in all competitions last term as the Dons finished fourth in League Two before losing against Crawley in the play-offs.

George Thomason

Has thrived under Evatt in recent years and took on the captain’s armband for the win against Reading last weekend. Attracted interest from the Championship last summer but opted to remain in the North West.

Lloyd Isgrove

Antoni Sarcevic

Headed to Stockport a few months into the following season and helped the Hatters win a couple of promotions. Joined Bradford over the summer and has played four times for the Bantams so far.

Dapo Afolayan

Snapped up by St Pauli in January 2023 and helped the club secure promotion to the Bundesliga last term under Fabian Hurzeler, who has since taken charge at Brighton. Made four appearances in the German top flight so far this term.

Eoin Doyle

Headed back to Ireland in January 2022 to sign for St Patrick’s but still had a part to play for Wanderers in a scouting capacity. Decided to hang up his boots last year following a prolific career in the game.
