WANDERERS Women hit the FA Cup trail this weekend hoping to knock-out higher-league Tranmere Rovers.

Myles Smith was part of the coaching team that took West Ham United to the final of the competition in 2019 and this season his side start at the second qualifying round – which means they are nine wins away from Wembley.

After making a 100 per cent start in the league after six games, Wanderers are brimming with confidence as they travel to Ellesmere Port Sports Club on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick off).

And Smith admits he would love to be part of another good cup run in his first season in charge of the Whites.

“The priority is the league, of course, but it’s the FA Cup, why wouldn’t you want to get as far as you can?” he told The Bolton News. “What a day it would be if we managed to get drawn against one of the bigger teams.

“We want to win everything we can.

“We played them pre-season and had a rotated side, with a lot of players away at the time, but they gave us a really good test. It was a challenging game.

“We are going there at nearly full strength, so we will see what we can do.

“They play in the league above us, they will be up the top end of that table by the end of the season as well, so we will have to be at our best. It is where we want to get to.”

Wanderers will be without midfielder Lily Barnes for up to four weeks after she picked up an injury in the recent win against Haslingden.

Mille Smith stepped in with success last weekend and is likely to keep her place against Tranmere.

“We have got good depth in this group, and we have got players who can drop in there and do a great job for us,” he said. “Millie went in as the number four at the weekend against Preston and did an unbelievable job.

“There are a few other players who are touch-and-go, waiting to come through assessments, so we will see how we go, but we will have a strong team at Tranmere.”
