A trio of Bolton Olympic members enjoyed success at the Snake Pit World Catch Wrestling Championships, with Harry Meadows crowned World Senior champion at 59kg.
The trio from the Wigan Road club only had a short journey to compete with this year’s championships being held in Wigan for the first time.
The Snake Pit is famous around the world as the original home of Catch as Catch Can Wrestling, and it was an amazing experience for the Bolton Olympic triumvirate to represent the town of Bolton.
The event hosted athletes from 14 different countries including the USA, Australia, Japan, Georgia, Afghanistan, Sudan, and the Netherlands.
Bolton star Meadows was crowned World Senior Catch Wrestling champion at 59kg, with clubmates Megan Morris and Hadi Najafi finishing in second place in their respected categories.
Bolton Olympic Coach Mack Chambers said: “I’m very proud of all of our athletes who stepped up to represent the academy at this event and I would like to congratulate Harry on becoming our first Senior Catch Wrestling world champion.”
Club chairman Jack Holt, who was recently awarded a British Empire Medal from King Charles III was equally impressed by the athletes’ performances and added: “We pride ourselves as an academy on creating a safe, inclusive, and family environment that is open for anyone to attend, but it is always nice to celebrate the individual achievements of our athletes who continue to go from strength to strength.”
Coach Lee Meadows said: “These results are a great way of celebrating the diversity of sport in Bolton and everyone at the academy is very proud of all of our athletes and their individual achievements.”
