A newly announced Ironman event has become England’s only full-length course.

Ironman Leeds will take place on July 27, 2025. The course will consist of a 2.4-mile swim (3.8km), 112-mile cycle (180km), and 26.2-mile run (42.2km).

It comes after Bolton’s course was slashed to become an ‘Ironman 70.3’ half-length course from the 2024 event.

However, Bolton Council says the event will still take place in the borough until at least 2028.

Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for culture, Cllr Nadeem Ayub, said: “IRONMAN has a longstanding partnership with Bolton including the current agreement for the borough to host the IRONMAN 70.3 until at least 2028.

“This half distance event is more accessible, attracts more competitors and reduces both the amount and the duration of road closures.

“Meanwhile we still enjoy all the benefits of large crowds, a boost to the local economy and the other popular events that take place over the weekend including the world’s largest IRONKIDS.

“The newly announced Leeds IRONMAN complements our existing event and is perfectly timed for athletes to use the Bolton 70.3 as part of their preparations.”

Those looking to register for the full-length course in Leeds can do so from Thursday, September 26 – with a deadline of Christmas Day, or December 25, to take advantage of early entry benefits.

The course will take place from Roundhay Park, starting with the lake swim before the race extends into the Yorkshire Dales National Park for the bike ride.

Then, the marathon-length run will take place on a multi-lap course around Roundhay Park before the race concludes.

Full course details and maps will be announced at a later stage, organisers say.

Other Ironman events taking place in the UK include Ironman 70.3 Swansea and Ironman 70.3 Weymouth.

The UK’s only other full-length Ironman takes place in Tenby, Wales – with Leeds becoming England’s only full-length course.
